Thank you for being here. Whether you’ve been reading for a while or just discovered this space, I’m glad our paths crossed. The Garden of Cosmic Speculation has always been, at its heart, a quiet conversation about places that stay with us long after we’ve left them — gardens, houses, landscapes that hold a certain stillness. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.

Press, collaboration, and professional enquiries
I welcome thoughtful proposals from architects, landscape designers, property owners, and editors whose work aligns with the spirit of this site. If you have a private garden or country home you feel belongs here — one shaped by real attention to place rather than fashion — I’d be glad to discuss a possible feature. Email me directly at the address above with a brief description and a few photographs. I read everything personally, though I can’t always reply as quickly as I’d like.
Photo usage and licensing
All photography on this site is my own original work unless otherwise credited. If you’d like to license an image or discuss reproduction rights, please get in touch. I’m generally open to sharing work for the right context — print publications, exhibitions, and projects that respect the integrity of the images and the places they depict.
A note on timing
This site is edited and written by one person, alongside time spent outdoors with a camera. I aim to respond within a week, but during fieldwork or travel it may take a little longer. I appreciate your patience — it’s never from lack of interest, only from being somewhere without a signal, which is often where the best stories begin.
What readers often ask
Do you accept guest contributions?
Occasionally, but rarely. If you have a story that genuinely fits the tone and subject matter of this site — a personal essay on a meaningful garden, a considered look at a private house and its landscape — I’m open to reading it. Please send a short pitch before submitting a full piece. I’m drawn to writing that is observant, unhurried, and rooted in real experience.
Can you advise on my own garden or property?
I’m not a practising landscape architect or designer, and I don’t offer consultancy. What I share here comes from years of observation, conversation with people who shape the land, and a deep respect for the principles that make a place feel whole. I hope the articles offer something useful — a direction, a way of seeing — but the hands-on work belongs to you and the professionals you trust.
Do you visit and photograph private gardens?
Yes, that’s become a central part of what I do. If you own a garden or country property you think might be right for the site, I’m always interested in listening. The places I feature aren’t always grand; more often they’re personal, lived-in, and quietly remarkable. A kitchen garden that feeds a family. A terrace designed around old trees. A modern house that opens into a wildflower meadow. These are the spaces that matter to me now.
What this site is for
When I began, I was drawn to expansive, ambitious landscapes — places like the Garden of Cosmic Speculation itself, where land becomes art and planting becomes philosophy. That fascination hasn’t faded, but my lens has slowly pulled closer. I’ve become more curious about how these ideas translate to a smaller scale: the private home, the family garden, the outdoor room where someone has their morning coffee. This site now moves between those worlds — the monumental and the intimate — trying to understand what makes any outdoor space feel alive.
If that resonates, I’d be glad to hear from you. The best part of this work is the exchange: a reader sharing a garden they’ve loved for decades, an architect explaining why they placed a window where they did, someone telling me about a house they grew up in and the trees they still remember. Those conversations remind me that landscape isn’t abstract — it’s personal, and it belongs to all of us.
With warmth,
Eleanor Vane
