Editorial Standards
Every piece published on The Garden of Cosmic Speculation is shaped by a quiet, considered approach to storytelling. This page outlines the principles that guide the writing, photography, and curation you’ll find here — and what you can expect when you visit.
Our Approach
This site began with a long-term photographic study of the Garden of Cosmic Speculation, a place where land art, planting, and sculpture converge. That project taught me to look closely — to see how a designed landscape holds light, weather, and time. Over the years, my curiosity led me from public installations toward private spaces: country houses, family gardens, terraces, and the outdoor rooms where daily life unfolds. Today, the site explores the meeting point of residential architecture and landscape design, always with the same attention to atmosphere and detail.
What We Cover
We publish original photo essays, in-depth articles, and thoughtful case studies focused on:
- Private houses and country properties where architecture and landscape work together
- Gardens of all scales — from small courtyard designs to expansive rural estates
- Outdoor living spaces, garden rooms, and terraces that extend the home
- Planting philosophy, materials, and the sensory qualities of designed landscapes
Every location we feature is chosen because it tells a story worth sharing — not because it’s fashionable or algorithm-friendly.
Photography Standards
I photograph every project myself, using natural light and a documentary approach. Images are never heavily manipulated; post-processing is limited to basic adjustments that preserve the honesty of the scene. I believe that a garden or home should be shown as it is experienced — with shadows, weather, and the imperfections that make a place feel real. Where archival or contributed images are used, they are clearly credited and contextualised.
Editorial Integrity
Trust matters. I do not accept payment for editorial coverage. If a project appears on this site, it’s because I believe it offers genuine insight into residential design. Any sponsored content, partnerships, or affiliate links will always be clearly disclosed. My opinions are my own, and I never allow commercial interests to influence the editorial direction of a story.
I also avoid trends and hype. The properties and gardens I write about are selected for their lasting qualities — craftsmanship, sensitivity to place, and the way they support the lives within them.
How We Select Stories
There’s no fixed formula. I follow threads of interest that grow out of my own work and travels. Sometimes a project is suggested by a reader or a designer; more often, I stumble across a house or garden that stays with me. Before featuring it, I spend time on site — walking the grounds, talking with the people who shaped it, and photographing it over hours or days. The resulting article is a slow distillation, not a rushed review.
I don’t chase page views or publish for the sake of a schedule. If a story isn’t ready, it waits.
Corrections and Accuracy
I make every effort to verify names, dates, plant species, and architectural details before publication. If an error slips through, I correct it promptly and note the update at the bottom of the article. Readers are always welcome to point out mistakes — I’m grateful for the extra eyes.
Privacy and Respect
Many of the homes and gardens featured are private. I never publish a story without the owner’s permission, and I respect requests for anonymity or location discretion. The people who open their gates to me do so out of generosity, and I treat that trust with care.
